Meet the Director
Dr. Helen McCarthy, Pharm.D. R.Ph, RHE, Academic Director and
founder of Pharmacy Technician Enterprises, received her Bachelor's
of Pharmacy Degree from St. John’s University College of Pharmacy
and her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at Bernard Dunn School of Pharmacy
at Shenandoah University.
After completing a post-graduate residency at Memorial Sloan-Kettering
Cancer Center, she worked as a research pharmacist for the AIDS
clinical trial unit of Downstate Medical Center and has worked
in several area hospitals, retail pharmacies, pharmaceutical manufacturers,
home infusion companies, and educational institutions. Her experience
in a wide variety of practice settings, as well as her credentials
as a NYS licensed teacher, have enabled her to develop a highly
successful program that trains students to become Certified Pharmacy
Technicians (C.PhTs).
Certified Pharmacy Technicians work under licensed pharmacists
and assist them in the dispensing and compounding of medications.
The high demand for C.PhT’s has created a need for a training program
that could incorporate both class and lab work to prepare students
to pass the National Certification Exam. Pharmacy Technician Enterprises
currently holds day, evening, and weekend sessions throughout the year. All the sessions are conducted
over either eight weeks or six weekends. A high school diploma
or a GED and a will to succeed are all that is required. If you
ever thought about entering this exciting, lucrative and ever-growing
profession or are looking for a career change, Ms. McCarthy would
be happy to speak to you about this program, the 99% pass rate
of its graduates on the Certification Exam, and its successful
job placement program.
See for yourself why Ms McCarthy was the 2003 recipient of the
Suffolk County Women’s Business Enterprise Coalition award, as
well as a member of the Long Island Works Coalition Workforce Builders
Award Honor Roll sponsored by Newsday and Island Publications.
